Root canal treatment

What is root canal treatment?

When the inside of a tooth is damaged you may need root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment.

Root canal treatment involves drilling a hole into the tooth to remove the centre, known as dental pulp. This is the connective tissue, nerves and blood supply that reaches the roots.

Once the dental pulp is removed the tooth is filled and sealed. The crown of the tooth may also need to be replaced.

Dr Charlie is highly experienced in root canal treatment and is currently undergoing a university masters in this field of dentistry. He is happy to answer any questions you may have!

FAQโ€™s

If a tooth is cracked or there is a deep cavity bacteria can enter the dental pulp inside the tooth and cause infection. If untreated this can lead to an abscess, causing pain, swelling, your jawbone and overall health. If left untreated you may need to have the tooth removed.

At White Sands Dental we can perform painless root canal treatment. Itโ€™s a routine treatment carried out by our professional dentists and youโ€™ll be pain-free in no-time.

Root canal treatment usually requires 1-2 visits.

You may be numb for a couple of hours after treatment due to local anaesthetic, however you will be able to return to your normal activities. We recommend not eating until the numbness wears off.
